Online Counselling

What is online counselling?

Online counselling, also known as e-counselling or teletherapy, is the provision of mental health services through a virtual platform. This can include video chats through a PIPA/HIPAA compliant program or phone calls. Online counselling offers a convenient and flexible form of therapy, allowing clients to attend sessions from their own homes or wherever they feel most comfortable. It can also remove barriers such as transportation and scheduling conflicts that can prevent individuals from accessing traditional in-person therapy.

It is important to note that online counselling may not be suitable for everyone, and certain mental health issues may require more intensive treatment. Ultimately, the decision to pursue online therapy should be made after consultation with a qualified therapist and consideration of individual needs and circumstances.

Please contact us first so we can discuss your needs and see if online counselling would be a good fit for you.

How much does counselling costs?

Depending on the therapist, counselling session costs vary. Generally, the cost of most therapists are between $150 - $200 per hour session and can be provided through either phone call, video-call or in person sessions.

If you have insurance, the fee can often be covered by health benefit plans.

How would I know if a therapist is the right fit for me?

During your first session, we encourage you to ask as many questions as you want about how we work online, what technology we use, and what safety precautions are taken to ensure your confidentiality.

An initial intake is used to gather more information about yourself, your hopes for counselling, and to consider the best therapists for your hopes and goals in counselling. Intakes are done on the phone and are only about 10 minutes in length. If you feel comfortable and would like to book an appointment with a therapist, a session can be booked.

What are the advantages of online counselling?

Online therapy, or online counselling, offers a number of advantages for individuals seeking mental health support. Many find it convenient to have sessions from the comfort and privacy of their own home, rather than having to travel to an in-person appointment. It also allows for greater flexibility in scheduling and provides easier access for those with disabilities or transportation challenges. Online therapy can also create a sense of safety and anonymity for those who may feel uncomfortable discussing personal issues in person. In certain cases, online therapy can also provide more affordable options, as online therapists may have lower overhead costs and offer sliding scale fees. Overall, online counselling can offer a valuable resource for individuals seeking mental health support.

If I need medication, can you prescribe me some?

We cannot prescribe medication. If for mental health reasons in therapy we decide together that a medical route may be supportive of your mental health journey, we can talk about options for referrals.

What is your cancellation policy?

Life happens, if you need to cancel your appointment, we please ask you to give us at least 24 hours advance notice. If you don’t cancel prior to your appointment, you may be subject to be charged the full rate of your session.
