Gender and Identity
Counselling

Many who identify within the LGBTQ2S+ community continue to face condemnation, intolerance, prejudice, micro-aggressions and lack of acceptance and equality. Identifying within the LGBTQ2S+ community can still have grave impacts and dire consequences. Even within the LGBTQ2S+ communities there can continue to be discrimination and isolation. Counselling can be a space of support to help individuals process their sexuality, gender identity, impacts of homophobia or gender phobia and how this has affected their sense of self-worth, identity, and confidence. Speaking regularly with an online gender therapist can help to verbalize these feelings, find answers to your gender questions, and empower you in your unique gender expression.

What is Gender Identity?

Gender identity is each person’s internal and individual experience of gender. It is a person’s sense of being a woman, a man, both, neither, or anywhere along the gender spectrum. A person’s gender identity may be the same as or different from their birth-assigned sex. Being able to understand how you perceive yourself—whether you relate to your biological sex or a noncisgender identity—that knowledge can build towards a sense of pride, confidence, and direction in your daily life. Individuals who come to therapy for gender identity are often on a journey of self-discovery, and their time with a gender therapist is explorative, informative, and gender affirming.

What To Expect From A Gender Therapist?

Whether you feel you may be suffering from a diagnosable mental illness or you are looking to explore questions you may have about your gender identity, coping mechanisms, depression, or anxiety- this is a judgement free space to do so.

Our mental health professionals will hold space for you to identify your own needs, teach you effective communication skills, and support you in affirming who you are. Counselling can be a space to share your hopes, fears, and goals, embarking on a very personal journey of growth and acceptance.

Exploring Gender and Identity is a Part of Mental Health Care

Sometimes, having a safe space to talk can make all the difference. Unlike support groups, individual sessions with a gender therapist are entirely focused on you and exploring your unique situation. Together with the right therapist, you will be able to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, how you want to express gender, and achieve a better sense of overall well being. Many individuals in therapy for gender identity exploration find it helpful and affirming speaking with a supportive mental health professional.

Our sessions together will help you…

Support people working through trauma related to social attitudes and discrimination experienced in relation to gender identity.

Learn to set boundaries in areas of your life where you may be feeling uncomfortable (if it's safe to do so).

Develop a stronger sense of self-worth, confidence and sense of identity.

Support you through navigating and considering the risks and benefits of openly living according to your gender/sexuality.
